Remote for test-takers
The steps you need to take for your test are very similar to the steps you took during onboarding.
Go to the Proctortrack website using the link sent to you by your institution and sign in.
Tip: Each test may have different guidelines set, so it’s important to review and understand the instructor’s guidelines every time you take a test.
Tip: Your test will open in the same browser tab you use to open or download the Proctortrack files. Keep this tab open to make sure the test will load.
If you uninstalled Proctortrack after onboarding, download and install Proctortrack as you previously did by selecting Download Proctortrack.
If you have the Proctortrack software installed, a popup displays. Select Open Proctortrack.
The Proctortrack software launches.
Proctortrack will do a system check, you will then need to scan your face and ID card. The scans will be checked against the baseline identity profile you created during onboarding to verify the correct person is sitting the test.
These steps are the same as used during onboarding. Follow the onscreen instructions, the process is intuitive. The slides below will give you an idea of the screens you will encounter during the process.
Note that you will only be prompted to do the room scan if your institution has set this as a requirement.
If you are required to do the room scan, follow the onscreen instructions. These are the methods available to you.
Pan your webcam
If you are using an external webcam, move it around to capture your desk and room. Ensure you capture the area on and under the desk.
Pan your laptop
If you are using your computer’s internal webcam, move your laptop around to capture your desk and room. Ensure you capture the area on and under the desk.
Use a mirror
Position a mirror in front of the webcam and move it around to capture the room and the area on and under the desk.
To start the test, review the test guidelines and then select START PROCTORING.
The test loads in the Janison Test Player, in the Chrome browser window you used to access your test and download/connect to the Proctortrack software.
Proctortrack starts monitoring you and your computer. A blue border appears around the edges of your screen and a video panel of yourself displays.
Important: The test’s time limit does not include the time spent on completing preparation steps. Once you have confirmed you have finished reading the instructions, the timer will start. For example, in the screen capture below, once you select Yes, the timer will start.
Make your way through the test questions and submit the test once you reach the end.
Select the two blue arrows to minimise or maximise the bar at the top of the screen:
Move the student video panel around your screen by dragging the top (as highlighted in the screen capture below) with your mouse.
Minimise the student video panel be selecting the minus – icon.
Open the Proctortrack support page by selecting the person icon.
After you have completed and submitted your test, you should end the Proctortrack session.
Either select END PROCTORING in the top Proctortrack menu bar or select END on the student video panel.
You have an option to return to the test or to confirm that you want to end the session.
When you select END, Proctortrack uploads your proctoring data. Do not close the Proctortrack software while the upload is in progress.
Once the upload is complete, the status will show as 100% and you have the option to close or uninstall Proctortrack.
A problem with your internet connection can cause Proctortrack to stay on the uploading screen, with the upload not progressing.
Your proctoring data (scans and videos of behaviour and environment during the test) will be stored on your local device until it can be uploaded, but must be uploaded within 24 hours after your test was submitted.
You can resolve the issue by restoring your computer’s internet connection while the Proctortrack software is still open. Once your computer is back online, Proctortrack will automatically resume the upload.
If you are unable to reconnect, you can close the Proctortrack software and your data will still be held locally on your computer.
Once your computer is back online, reattempt the upload by using the same steps you used above to launch Proctortrack.
The Proctortrack software will open and automatically restart the upload of your proctoring data.
Once the upload is complete, the status will show as 100% and you have the option to close or uninstall Proctortrack.
Select QUIT APP to exit Proctortrack or UNINSTALL to exit and uninstall Proctortrack from your computer.
On the Proctortrack dashboard, the test’s status will now be shown as green ‘Upload Successful’.
