Introduction

Sessionless delivery makes it easy for administrators to quickly set up assessment events, without the hassle of creating separate test sessions. This means that test-takers can access their tests without having to enter a session code.

When to use Sessionless

Sessionless delivery is suited for delivering low stakes tests because:

  • Sessionless does not support resilience, the device must stay online throughout the test, if the device goes offline, the test-taker will not be able to continue the test.
  • Test-takers access the tests in the Chrome browser, so they can navigate the internet during the test.
Note: Test-taker progress of responses is not available until they have submitted their test attempt.

How do test-takers access a Sessionless test?

Delivery managers can give test-takers access to their test through the candidate dashboard or via a URL.

Candidate dashboard

This access method removes the need for test-takers to enter session codes and student codes. When they click the test tile, they will be taken directly to their test.

Via url

Administrators can provide test-takers with the site url with an extension of ‘/auth/opensession’, for example https://Insight-url.com/auth/opensession. Test-takers will then only need to enter a test-taker access code to validate entry to their test, a session code will not be required. Based on their enrolment in the assessment event, they will be taken to the relevant test.

To share the URL, administrators could add it to a website or send it via email for test-takers to access

Set up Sessionless delivery

You can configure this on or off at an assessment level so that you can use a mix of sessions and sessionless.

Enable sessionless at the tenant level

Navigate to Assessment Event Settings > Delivery Settings > Enable Sessionless Delivery.

You can leave it off or enable it to On and enabled by default or On and disabled by default. If for example you set it to On and enabled by default, when you create an assessment event, it will be enabled, but you will have an option to disable it.

Enable or disable for specific Assessment event

Open the relevant assessment event and navigate to Test Player & Delivery Options.  Select or deselect Enable Sessionless Delivery for this Assessment Event.

Note: you can only change this setting when the assessment event is in a draft state. Once in delivery state, this setting becomes inactive.

Manage test-taker attempts

Administrators can view and manage test attempts from three screens; the delivery dashboard, the test attempts screen & from the assessment event. Let’s take a look at how to get to each of these.

Delivery Dashboard

Browse to Delivery > Delivery Dashboard.

Scroll to the Candidates section and find the relevant test-taker. Select Actions > Manage Attempt.

Test Attempts screen

Browse to Deliver > Manage Attempts.

Find the relevant test-taker and select Actions > Manage Attempt.

Assessment event

Browse to Deliver > Assessment Event and find the relevant event.

Open the Candidate Enrolments expandable > Current Enrolments and select the eye icon for the relevant test-taker.

Manage active attempts modal

The modal provides the following options for managing a test attempt:

  • Award More Time
  • Award Less Time
  • Pause
  • Resume
  • Postpone
  • Submit

The buttons function identically to how they do on the Test Session administration dashboard. Buttons are hidden if not applicable and disabled if not able to be performed.

In the below example, the test is not timed so the award and remove time buttons are not visible. The test-taker is not paused so the resume button is inactive.

When you select a button, an option to enter details and to confirm is available.

Bulk Manage Attempts

You can manage multiple attempts on the test attempt screen.

Browse to Deliver > Manage Attempts.

Select the relevant attempts and then select Manage Attempts from the dropdown at the bottom of the grid and Apply.

The modal to manage the attempts displays where you can select the required options.
