Test preview tools

When you preview a question, test section or test, a set of tools are displayed on the right side of the Test Player to assist you in performing checks on the test.

The tools that display depend on where you have selected the preview from, for example, you will not have the option to ‘randomise question order sequence’ if you are previewing a single question.

These tools are useful for roles such as Authors to enable them to preview the way the questions, test sections and tests will appear and function for candidates.

Other roles can be configured to view these tools.

Tip

The preview is not a live attempt of the test, the system does not record test results.

You can access the preview feature from any location where you have access to the Preview function. This includes:

Test, test section and question authoring screens
The actions column in test sessions
The test in marking projects
The delivery dashboard

Available tools

The following tools are available.

Refresh

This option allows you to reset your attempt, for example if you complete a question or test and wish to retest it.

Navigation

Enable linear navigation if you would like to preview the test in linear mode. In this mode, candidates must answer the items in order and cannot skip ahead without answering the current item. They can revisit previous items, but their answers are not editable.

Once enabled, an option becomes available to disable it.

Personal need and preference codes

You can view the substitute version of a question, for example, the language preference.

Item order sequence

Test creators can set the questions in the test section to be presented to students in the sequence in which they were created, or in a randomised order. This tool allows you to view them either way, by randomising or unrandomising them.

Once enabled, an option becomes available to unrandomise.

Distractor order sequence

Test creators can set distractors (answer options) to be presented to students in the sequence in which they were created, or in a randomised order. This tool allows you to view them either way, by randomising or unrandomising them.

Once enabled, an option becomes available to unrandomise.

Scoring

You can undertake the test and monitor your scores. For example, you can check whether you have selected the correct response. You can monitor the question you are currently on in the Current Item Field.
