Feedback and live marking

Feedback and live marking provides you with options to display feedback in the test player during or after a test. Below is an example of an item in a test with the selected response highlighted as correct and feedback relating to that selection underneath.

Note that feedback and live marking only applies to some system marked items.

Feedback and live marking serve two distinct end purposes:

  1. Contextual feedback displayed to test-takers in the testplayer, during a live test, to help provide information to test-takers as to why their response is correct/incorrect. Please note that this is only available for multiple choice item types.
  2. Contextual feedback displayed in the testplayer which teachers can access via the Guttman and question summary reports, and test-takers can access through their candidate dashboard. This feature is only available for multiple choice, multiple choices, keyword, and hotspot interaction item types.

You can set feedback and live marking for one or both of the above purposes.

Once you have created your item, the Feedback and Live Marking section displays.

Edit feedback and live marking

Select the pencil  icon to open the Feedback and Live Marking section in edit mode.

Note that you must enable Live Marking of Items in the test section. This is covered below in detail.

Enable Live Marking and Feedback for this item should be checked by default, if not, select it.

Select Show Outcome and Correct Response.

This is what you would expect to see if you select Show Outcome and Correct Response. The Outcome is the option that the test-taker selected, the Correct Response is the field with the response feedback.

Correct / Incorrect Response Feedback

In the Display Options dropdown, select Display in the test Player AND Preview. This will make the feedback display to the test-taker during the test and display to test authors in the item preview feature.

Further down this section you have options to set your custom feedback. You could also use the system auto generated feedback which displays in the Default Feedback editor.

Note that if you leave Use Auto-Generated Feedback checked and enter your custom feedback in the fields further down the screen, the system will select to use your custom feedback rather than the Default Feedback displaying here.
