Sampling is the process whereby senior markers sample marked scripts to ensure consistency and marker accuracy. This is also known as ‘random check’.
Tip
If sampling is active in conjunction with double marking, any instances where a Senior Marker creates a final score to resolve a conflict, will not contribute to the sampling data. This is to avoid random check bias towards only conflict.
There are two types of sampling available:

Description
Normal sampling
This is where a quota of candidate answers for which the Markers’ scores must be randomly checked by more Senior Markers.
Two tier sampling
This is where there are two separate sampling quotas that must be met for the marking project:
Tier 1 quota – A percentage of candidate answers must be randomly checked by the most senior members of the marking team (ie. Markers who can create scores that are ‘Final’)
Tier 2 quota – A percentage of candidate answers that must be randomly checked by senior markers of the marking team (ie. markers who can create scores that are ‘Senior Marker’
