Subscriptions

Introduction

Like all Learning Assets, a subscription needs to be added to a Catalogue item for users to be able to access them.

Refer to the document on Catalogue Items for further information.

The easiest way to do this is to select Add it now at the top of the subscription.

Tag catalogue items

For Catalogue Items to be included in a subscription, they need to be tagged with the tags listed in the Benefits section of the Subscription.

  1. Select  on the Tags section of the catalogue item.

  1. Select the appropriate tag created earlier.
  2. Select Done.

Note: Make sure the catalogue item has the following set.

  • Price

  • Enrolment Method set to Self-enrolment (Paid)

  • A Payment method needs to be set, for example

Initial Settings

Browse Learning

Browse to Settings > Browse Learning Settings. The following settings need to be selected:

  1. Price.
  2. Full Catalogue.
  3. Subscriptions.
  4. Recommend Browse Learning Search is on as well.

  1. Select Save Settings.

Self-Enrolment

Browse to Settings > Self-enrolment Settings.

  1. Select Self-enrolment (Paid) for the Default Enrolment Method.
  2. Optionally select Allow Enrolment Method override per Catalogue Item and specify the options relevant to your organisation.

Payment Settings

Enable a payment gateway for your users to be able to pay for the learning. Refer to Payment Settings for further information on this feature.

Enable Tag Type

Browse to Settings > Points Settings.

Check Enable Tag Type.

Create Tags

Browse to Design > Manage Tags > Manage Tag Types > Add Tag Type.

  1. Enter a Name and Description.
  2. Add the tags required for your subscriptions. As a minimum you only need one tag to apply a range of discounts. In this document we use ‘Discounted’. Other examples include: 10%, 20%, 33%, 50% 80%, 100% or Bronze, Silver, Gold & Platinum.
  3. Select Save Tag Type.

Create Subscriptions

Browse to Manage Learning > Manage Learning Assets.

  1. Select Add Learning Asset.

  1. Select New Subscription.

  1. Enter a Name.
  2. Enter a Description.

Note that the description will appear on the subscription tile under Check out the details.

  1. Select Save Subscription.

Benefits

Benefits are the discounts applied to Catalogue Items when a user enrols.

  1. Select the icon on the Benefits section.

  1. Optionally, select to apply the benefits of the Subscription to sessions of a learning event.
  2. Enter required Discount Rate.
  3. Select the required For Tags. We are using “Discounted” as one of the tags from the subscription tag type.
  4. Select Save.

You can add several benefit groups, each with a different discount rate. The Catalogue items tagged with the corresponding tags will have the relevant discounts applied to them.

Note: You can have positive or negative benefits but not both in one subscription. You can create multiple subscriptions and have a negative and a positive subscription apply to the same catalogue item. Negative subscriptions are not seen by the end user, it will just affect the price displayed to them.

Subscription Period

  1. Select on Subscription Period section.

Note: If no subscription period is specified, then the subscription will run indefinitely.

To set a subscription to run for a fixed amount of time.

  1. Enter the required Subscription Period.
  2. Select the required Subscription Period. This is Days, Weeks or Months.
  3. Select Save.

To set a subscription that ends on a specified date.

  1. Select Expires on the selected Day/Month following Subscription.
  2. Enter Date.
  3. Select Save.

Add to Catalogue

User Experience

Users can view available subscriptions by selecting Browse Learning > Subscriptions.

Users can view the details of the subscriptions by selecting

Users can view a list of the Catalogue Items included in the subscription by selecting

Once users are enrolled in a subscription, if you change the subscription a popup will be displayed with an option to update existing subscribers to the new benefit.

If you selected No, a button to update all subscribers will become available to push the subscription changes out to existing subscribers at any time.

If you do not Update All Subscribers, you could have different subscribers on different versions of the same subscription.

When a subscriber goes to re-enrol their renewal benefits may be different. The following example shows how this is displayed to the user.

Alternate Configuration

Subscriptions can be implemented in a number of ways. Here is an example of an alternate configuration.

Three tags were created in the subscription tag type and applied to different courses.
