Hotspot interaction

A hotspot interaction question requires the candidate to select one or more areas of an image, called hotspots. The hotspots are visible to the candidate during the test and they are highlighted when the candidate selects them.

This question is marked automatically by the system.

Create item

  1. Follow the steps covered in the Creating a question section.
  2. Select Hotspot Interaction from the Type drop-down field.
  3. Complete the following:
    1. Enter the question into the Question Stem field.
    2. Add a prompt (optional).
    3. Select the appropriate scoring option from the Scoring Type drop-down field. See the Scoring section to learn more about this. If choosing ‘Per Distractor’, you can also add a minimum and maximum score.
  4. Complete the following:
    1. Select the image icon to add an image and then draw the shapes around the areas that are to be the hotspots for candidates to select. See the Inserting an image section for more information.
    2. Enter the minimum and maximum number of choices the candidate can make in the Min choices and Max Choices fields.
  5. Complete the following:
    1. Enter a label for each option. This is only used in the authoring process and is not displayed to candidates.
    2. Select the checkbox in the Correct column next to any correct answers.
  6. Select the Save Test Question button to save.
