Slider interaction

A slider interaction question requires candidates to choose a correct value by dragging a slider to the correct position.

This question is marked automatically by the system.

Create item

  1. Follow the steps covered in the Creating a question section.
  2. Select Slider Interaction from the Type drop-down field.
  3. Complete the following:
    1. Enter the question into the Question Stem field.
    2. Add a prompt (optional).
    3. Choose an orientation from the Orientation drop-down field.
    4. Select the Reverse Orientation checkbox (optional) if you would like the highest value on the left or the top of the slider.
    5. Select the appropriate scoring option from the Scoring Type drop-down field. See the Scoring section to learn more about this. If choosing ‘Per Distractor’, you can also add a minimum and maximum score.
  4. Choose how you want the slider to function by completing the following:
    1. Select the Allow floating point numbers checkbox (optional) if you would like to unlock the Decimal Places field and use decimals, eg. 2.5 out of 5.
    2. Enter a number in the Lower Bound and Upper Bound fields.

      Tip

The Lower Bound is the number you want to appear on the left of the slider. The Upper Bound is the number you want to appear on the right of the slider.

    3. Enter a number in the Step field. This is the smallest increment that the slider moves.

      Tip

This defaults to 1 for non-floating point numbers and continuous for floating point numbers. If you would like the slider to move in higher steps such as 2, eg. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, then add the appropriate number, in this example ‘2’ into the Step field.

    4. Select the Show Step Labels checkbox (optional) if you want the learners to see the step increments labelled.
  5. Enter the correct answer into the Answer field.
  6. Select the Save Test Question button to save.
