Text spot interaction

A text spot interaction question requires the candidate to select correct responses from several options. Selected responses display in a darker shade. Selecting them a second time will remove them as the selected response.

Create item

  1. Follow the steps covered in the Creating a question section.
  2. Select Text Spot from the Type drop-down field.
  3. Complete the following:
    1. Enter instructions for the activity into the Question Stem field.
    2. Add a prompt (optional).
    3. Select the appropriate scoring option from the Scoring Type drop-down field. See the Scoring section to learn more about this. If choosing ‘Per Distractor’, you can also add a minimum and maximum score.
    4. Select the required spot visibility from the Spot Visibility from the following options:

      VisibleCandidates can see the hotspots.
      HiddenCandidates can see the hotspots on mouse rollover.
    5. If you would like to enforce a minimum and maximum number of selections, enter a number in the Min choices and Max Choices fields. The minimum value will enforce the candidate to make that many selections. The maximum value will limit the selections to the value entered.
  4. Complete the following:
    1. Enter your text into the Interaction Body field.
    2. Select the Insert button, then Insert Text Spot to insert the appropriate text hotspots for the candidate to choose from. These will automatically be labelled ‘Step 1’, ‘Step 2’ etc. This will be updated in the next step.

      Tip

      These can also be added by right clicking on the mouse and selecting Insert Text Spot.

    3. Edit the answer text in the Answer column. This will relabel all the text spots to your entered answer. Select the Correct checkbox next to any correct answers.
    4. Select the Save Test Question button to save.
